(Run240) writes: Could someone tell me if there is a risk of seizures when coming off of klonopin? That is the only reason I have not tried it. I do take Ativan and prozac which has finially helped some with my panic attacks but I still can't drive over bridges on a regular basis which makes it quite hard to find another job. I have one doctor that says stick with Ativan and another that says try Klonopin because of the longer half-life. There is a risk of seizures if you withdraw from Klonopin after taking it on a regular basis; however, Ativan has the same risk. Ativan has been used as an anticonvulsant in the U.S. for much longer than Klonopin has, but Klonopin is used more for long-term daily management/prophylaxis of seizure disorders (which would be why doctors might have more experience with Klonopin withdrawal seizures than with Ativan withdrawal seizures). -elizabeth Klonopin can cause seizures if you on a very high dose and quit cold turkey, but is a lot less likely to than xanax or valium, also since you would be switching from benzo to benzo,; there wouldn't be side effects. I was on ativan for 25 yrs, compared to valium it did hardly anything for my A/P attacks, plus it's half-life is 4 hrs. Klonopin is #3 on the effectiveness on A/P attacks and is a lot higher than Ativan on the ability to do so. Plus Klonopin half-life is 12 hrs, and also comes in a 24 hr patch. Tim
