David, if you think about it logically, why would anyone vote on the issue of a strike vote WITHOUT finding out the situation first? Anyone who did ould be taking a rather flippant attitude don't you think? I returned today to my normal workplace in a government office.  I was told by a union member who had been on the picket line that they were very happy to be back at work.  In our discussion she pointed out that the 91% in favour vote was actually only 91% of the 24% who voted (or was that 21 or 29%??) ... anyway... she said that the union forced members to sit through a 2-hour presentation prior to letting anyone vote... and thus discouraged many people from voting. Is this true?  If so, I find that very unfair!! Imagine if you went to vote in the next election you were forced to sit through a 2-hour debate on the political issues before being allowed to cast you ballot! I hope this is just anouth of those rumors. David.

something seriously wrong with your perception of democracy.  I seriously wonder at the accepted format of these informational negotiations orientations . Again, my original response was in haste.  Regardless, I was not witness to any of these concerns when personally conducting strike and ratification votes in 2001 with 100's of NAPE Lab/X-Ray members.  The points you make are valid.  In my experience, there are very few who don't want a briefing.
