Under the federal disability laws, it is probably illegal to deny credit. Exactly.   And if Sears did take the step of finding out who was disabled and refused to allow them to run up credit, as you point out, no doubt they would be vilified and sued.  People seem to want it both ways. Folks, this subject was covered extensively in a Wall Street Journal article, oh, maybe a coupla months ago.  There is a widespread problem with the disabled and mentally impaired running up big bills, and it is NOT just 'Sears'.  And the problem is exactly, IT IS ILLEGAL TO 'DISCRIMINATE' AGAINST THE HANDICAPPED IN GRANTING CREDIT!    I don't think that's the problem.   Credit card companies should be alot more conservative about who they lend to.   They don't need to discriminate against anyone for any reason but lack-of or bad credit. They could also lower their starting credit limit.
