As Chris Macdowell (

) put it: : Could Orlando have 5 more theme parks in the next 10-12 years? If the : rumors are true, maybe so. : *Six Flags Orlando? A Six Flags Vice President said last week that : Florida is a logical site for expansion. Really? That's interesting. I've long thought it would make sense for Six Flags to expand into Florida, although there's the very real question of market. Six Flags seems to thrive as being a regional park focusing on thrill rides over theming. I don't see a Six Flags Over Florida competing, or even trying to compete, with WDW. So the second question becomes, can it compete as a regional park, drawing local business. I mean, Florida *is* the fourth most populous state in the Union. But Universal's IOA would seem to be a great draw for the Orlando local market as a kind of Better-Six-Flags-than-Six-Flags. As fun as Six Flags parks are to thrill-ride-loving 18-34 y/o males (like me!), I think IOA will be, if the hype holds up, a clear winner over the Six Flags model. I agree with the Six Flags/Premier exec that Florida makes sense as an expansion destination, then, but I don't know about Orlando. And North Florida (Jacksonville/Tallahassee/Pensacola) doesn't make much sense either, because of the proximity of Six Flags over GA in Atlanta. But, what about a Six Flags _base_d in, say, Ft. Lauderdale, drawing the large S. Fla. population, for whom a trip to Orlando is just too far for a one-day jaunt? : *Universal to add 2 more parks? Universal is trying to buy 1800 acres : for 2 more theme parks. The 150 and 300 acre parks would open in 2005 : and 2010. I'll believe it when I see it. They want to build on the old Martin Marietta property, which is convenient to transportation (BeeLine and I-Drive), but has the problem of separating their resort into two noncontiguous segments. Besides, given their current vacillations over helping to fund the southern corridor of O'do's proposed light-rail system.... Universal will wait until IOA is open a couple of years to make a decision like that. : *2nd Sea World park? Executives at Sea World comfirm they are looking at : building a second themed attraction in Orlando. That would be very interesting. What would fit and provide synergy? Perhaps a super-sized water park, or perhaps a Busch Gardens-_style_ thrill ride park with a water theme instead of a jungle/Africa theme. (After all, SW is now focusing on their new Adventure Park name

I find this real hard to believe as Disney OWNS 100% of Lake Buena Vista. Lock, stock and complete city government (all city officials are employees of WDW). I think you are confusing Lake Buena Vista with Reedy Creek. Reedy Creek is the Disney-owned and run city that encompasses all of WDW. All of Reedy Creek government and city officials are Disney employees, and actually live in WDW. Reedy Creek is a District , namely the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID), and covers the entire property owned by WDW. This includes Celebration. RCID is a unique entity, and was created when the property was purchase in the Mid 60's. The property purchased was in more than one govermental county, namely Orange and Osceola counties. Like any two counties, contruction codes vary from one to another, and there were no contruction codes covering things like Fiberglass Castles and Artifical Mountains. RCID was created to provide consistant contruction codes for all things fantasy and real, for the entire property. Anything built on WDW owned property goes by RCID codes rather than Orange or Osceola county code. With that said, Lake Buena Vista is indeed a township with-in the WDW property line. WDW's officail address is P.O. Box 10,000, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830. It is *highly* unlikely than any competitors theme park would be built in LBV. See LBV is also the official home of some well know attractions...... Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM, and most of what the world considers Walt Disney World, is infact the township of Lake Buena Vista.
