whiplash recovery MIld whiplash - ways to speed recovery?

40 hours ago I had a rear end shunt. I was a bit confused as it was my first accident and didn't go straight to the doctor as I thought I was fine. However a few hours later I had whiplash. A few hours after that I went to see a doctor after work and told him about the mild pain in the middle left back and front right of my neck. He recommended I do light work and if there are any problems to come back later. The problem is in 10 days I plan on going on a trip which involves lots of back work. What is the usual recovery time, and how can I help speed it up? Does bed rest, a neck brace or chest brace help, even though its only a mild pain. I don't want to stuff my back up on the trip but I would prefer to keep on doing my casual sittown down light office work.

I don't think that there is much that you can do to speed up recovery. Just take it easy and have the pain pills handy. I was hit from behind by another car once. I didn't have any pain immediately, but over the next couple of days, the pain got worse. I regularly went to the chiropracter for the next few months, and most of the time it helped reduce the pain. Hopefully your injury is not that bad, but it could take some time before you are back to normal. -=- Tom <This account accepts no email.

Two years later I still can't sit with my head turned to the side for longer than a few minutes without pain.
