(2) 5TH ANNUAL NATIONAL CIRCUIT RIDER ROUNDUP The Circuit Riders, an affiliation of organizations and individuals who provide technology support to not-for-profit and community-_base_d organizations, invite you to join them at the 5th Annual National Circuit Rider RoundUp. The RoundUp takes place this June 28th through July 1st at the Denver Executive Tower Inn. This year's event will start with the 2nd Annual Day of Service on June 28th, 2001 with the RoundUp following on June 29th through July 1st, 2001. You can learn more about and register for this year's RoundUp at:
http://www.onecolorado.org. The Circuit Riders grew out of the progressive social change and environmental movements. Over the past five years, this community has grown to include more than 300 people from around the country who utilize technology for social justice, community development, and environmental and political action. They share in common a commitment to the accessibility of technology to all and wish to extend their network to those working in under-represented communities. These include individuals and organizations within, or that who provide services to, communities of color, women, gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender people, people with disabilities, senior citizens, people living in poverty, those for whom English is not the first language, and residents of rural communities. This year's RoundUp is hosted by Colorado Environmental Coalition and TechRocks, the technology arm of the Rockefeller Family Fund. It is the leading national gathering and professional development conference for people and organizations that provide onsite technology assistance to nonprofit organizations. Whether you're an old pro or a new hand at technology assistance, the Circuit Rider RoundUp is designed to have something to offer you. To learn more about the conference, visit

[Nonprofit Mailing List, May 23, 2001] (3) CALL FOR PROPOSALS: NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS AND PERFORMANCE Proposals are being sought for Nonprofit Organizational Effectiveness and Performance: Challenges and Advances in Theory and Practice , a conference for researchers and practitioners that will be held April 18-19, 2002 in Kansas City, Missouri. The conference is being sponsored by the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership Cookingham Institute of Public Affairs, Bloch School of Business and Public Administration, University of Missouri - Kansas City. The purpose of the conference is to advance our knowledge about nonprofit organizational effectiveness by bringing together those researchers and practitioners who have a serious interest in development and application of the theory and practice of nonprofit organizational performance. Questions that illustrate the range and types of topics expected to be addressed at the conference include: How do commercially-oriented (or entrepreneurial) nonprofit organizations assess their effectiveness? How do stakeholders assess their effectiveness? What strategies and models are being used or developed for evaluating and enhancing their effectiveness? Do answers to these questions differ when dealing with donative nonprofits (as opposed to commercially-oriented)? Are donative nonprofit organizations being evaluated using criteria more appropriate to commercial nonprofit organizations? By whom, why and with what effects? Are other distinctions among public benefit nonprofit organizations important for understanding differences in performance assessment and improvement? What have been the effects of the emphasis on program outcomes measurement for improving overall organizational effectiveness? What are grant-making foundations doing to assess the success of their efforts to build capacity or enhance nonprofit effectiveness? What has been the impact of capacity building efforts on nonprofit organizational effectiveness? Proposals for papers are due October 1, 2001. Proposals should be no more than two pages and include a statement about the problem or issue to be addressed, an indication of how the paper fits with current knowledge about this issue (including a very brief review of the most relevant literature), and a de_script_ion of the methods of analysis to be used or approach taken. Proposals should be sent to: Jill Cook, Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Kansas City, MO 64110. Jill Cook may be reached at 816-235-1177 or by email at
