making love stories Cloverfield
I deliberately did not read the thread last winter about this movie until I saw it, which was just today.  Cloverfield finally made it to the top of my Netflix queue, I pretty much liked it.  I was only put off by the contant prattle of Hud, or whatever his name was.  I enjoyed the ambiguity and lack of explanation.  While I did not particularly think of it as having a Lovecraftian atmosphere (like, for example, John Carpenter's The Thing), the imagery was pretty good for what might happen at the rising of R'lyeh, panicky civilians, ineffective military and mass chaos in the destruction.  My favorite scene and arguably the most horrific was the discovery that one of our protagonists had been bitten. I read Lee Clarke Zumpe's review also, and agreed with it.  At any rate, I think this movie is easily recommendable to horror fans of any stripe. Matt
