They just listen to the lawyer, go against their 'better' judgment and run with it. I don't think these people want to fuck with anyone's head, they are just getting some conventional wisdom. - Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text - Susan Fanaticism consists of redoubling your efforts when you have forgotten your aim.

I've posted the article below. I'd have to agree with you, Susan, she's stupid and clueless but not deliberately cruel or disgusting. I actually feel some pity for her. Go fig. Dating the birth mother Before you adopt a baby, you've got to sweep Mom off her feet. - - - - - - - - - - - - By Caroline Leavitt Sept. 29, 2000 | Two years after the birth of our son, Max, my husband, Jeff, and I began yearning for another baby. Because we couldn't have any more children, we wanted to try to adopt domestically, figuring it would be easier to get a newborn that way. We spent hours imagining our life with a new baby in it and finally decided to hire an adoption lawyer. We find a guy who is smart and funny and has adopted kids of his own. Think of me as the matchmaker, he tells us. He will find someone for us through referrals and ads he wants us to place in newspapers across the country. There are all kinds of birth mothers, he says, all kinds of adoptive parents, too. A cover for every pot, he jokes. To help birth mothers decide in our favor, he wants us to write a letter about ourselves, to make a family scrapbook. Think of it like a personal ad, he urges. He gives us samples to go by

I've posted the article below. I'd have to agree with you, Susan, she's stupid and clueless but not deliberately cruel or disgusting. I actually feel some pity for her. Go fig. [article snipped] Hmmmm, I just know I'm going to get flamed for this. Ah well, can't be worse than usual! For the life of me, I can't figure out what's stupid and clueless, let alone what's cruel or disgusting. What this woman writes is, in the end, a near stream-of-consciousness, a diary, about her experience. She sounds a lot like a number of aparents and pre-aparents I know with her hopes and fears. Most all of them turned out to be excellent aparents, sensitive, reasonable, etc. Does anyone expect her to be stone-hearted about this process? Just sit there like a lump? Conversely, do we expect her to be gnashing her teeth and rending her garments over the pain and anguish of the pre-birthmothers? She sounds pretty reasonable, actually, not at all the prototypical fetus-snatcher. [1] She's willing to exchange photos and visits. She learns to listen. She learns to talk with the birthmothers. For some reason, we accept that there's a learning curve for bparents and for adoptees, but not for aparents. You don't necessarily start off with all the compassion, education and sensitivity of an alt.adoption aparent [2] on day one. You learn as you go along with the issues are, how people feel, what the hot buttons are. So someone educate me on this one: what's stupid and clueless about this woman? steve [1] gads, I hate that term. [2] the good ones, of course. reply to: steve[no space]white at mediaone dot net

So someone educate me on this one: what's stupid and clueless about this woman? She doesn't believe what everyone here thinks she should. Isn't that enough? Back to sleep. Jeannette, Bmom There ain't no answer. There ain't going to be any answer. There never has been an answer. That's the answer. Gertrude Stein (1874-1946)
