I just came back from a trip up to Lake George with the family. Here are a few observations: * Warren County roads are surprisingly good for a relatively rural county. I remember passing through Greene County on NY 145 and noticing that the county roads intersecting were barely paved. Warren's county roads are sometimes as good as any state route. * However the tiny little rectangular markers that pass for county route shields are not up to the task. It takes a roadgeek even to figure out what they are. * I had to check out the signal mentioned on
http://adirondack-signals.tripod.com/en/spa_county/home.htm off Exit 11 of the Northway in Saratoga County. Yup. It's yellow. Just like Nassau County signals. In fact, all the Saratoga County maintained signals I saw were yellow. (Conveniently there's also a Stewart's Shops off exit 11.) * An interesting practice on the Northway: Non-state roads that access I-87 briefly become state reference routes (or secret routes ) at the point of the interchange. I wonder why. (This explains why the signals off the ramps are olive-colored even on the county roads in Saratoga County. They're state signals.) * Most of Glens Falls signals that I saw don't still have the look described in
http://adirondack-signals.tripod.com/en/glens_falls/home.htm They are still yellow, though, and most are still on mast-arms. * I-787 need not be an odd 3di. It could be extended to I-87 on its north end via NY 7 without missing a beat. (Of course, ALL downstate NY 3di's even first digits and NONE meet their parent more than once
