Hello all! I beleive the next few upcoming generations may possibly be the first in History since humans became sentient , that religion will come to an end. First of all, just because someone is religious and beleives in miracles, gods, devils, spirits, etc...it doesn't mean that they are unintelligent.  We are pretty much identical DNA wise and intelligence wise as human have been in all of recorded time, and there are people who have drawn some really wacko conclusions and some people will always believe in Crazy things.  The truth sometimes only belongs to the initiated, who have reached the right answers. I beleive the origins of religion comes from mans basic understanding of cause and effect.  At some point in time people came to the idea of a root cause .  Earthquakes and disasters were seen to come from God because there was no better explanation.  We now live in an age where nothing cannot be generally explained.  We are now just finding the details and filling in the gaps.  There is nobody on earth that can prove anything supernatural (if you doubt me show me one).  Science now explains everything to at least some degree. The End of Religion will come as a general conclusion and a commonly held idea in our scientific age.  There are people now who believe crazy things like we never really went to the moon.  That is an example of how there will be consensus of atheism of the future, but some will be led astray. The Brave new world will be better than the religious world in my opinion.   Good people do good things and Bad people do bad things, but for Good people to do Bad things, that takes Religion [not my quote]. The Brave new World will not have 19 hijackers who honestly believe they are doing good and obeying God by killing thousands, and receiving hundreds of virgins for their obedience. They didn't do it for kicks. That is why I am optomistic about the BRAVE NEW WORLD! I wish you well... Jason Oliver

Hello Jason and fellow Talkers . I dont think its realistic for religion to just evaporate in a few generations . tradition , the human psyche , the desire for easy answers and comfort will keep it going for a very long time . I dont think atheists can florish in the present environment . The numbers are so small , the hostility too it  hard to thrive . No easy way to come out of that closet , except for the very brave . I will remind you about transcendental singularity in Cosmology . Although it isnt the God of Michelangelos paintings it certainly looks devine with an Eastern flavor . Its easy to write off religion in disgust , due to all the negative aspects . i personaly have had knowlege gained from non physical or rational means .Pyschic for a better word . The passing away of a realative that I knew of almost instantly . With out any tale tell signs of environmental clues . The ability to correctly obtain  of 7 out of 10  tries to psychicly  see a mental image held by a friend in his mind in an ESP expirament. I know the reaction to most  claims of this kind are negative . Due to so many frauds . However this happened to me  first hand . In a controlled method  . Its not as repeatable as doing a math problem mentaly . Its a eureka type moment . I probably couldnt cash in at Ran'is Million dollar prize . The stress would probably  interfere .The motion to prove it can ruin the subtle state of mind eeg's to allow it . Althogh I bet there are yogis today that could pull it off . You forget that humans only evolved to the point where most people have just enough intelligence to survive in a tribe. You're spending too much time with your friends, who are as intelligent as you are. Spend more time around common folk, and all your intellectual daydreams will be shattered. I'm not trying to be derogatory toward the mass of humanity, but really, a lot of people only get by because humans are social animals. A very small fraction of the population keeps the whole thing running, and not many of those are intelligent in the pointy-headed intellectual sense, but they know how to keep their little part of the world from falling apart. They lead and they guide, sometimes without everyone around them really knowing about it. Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Heck if they nuked Jerusalem, they'd still worship the crater. People need religion like a baby needs its soother. I don't see that changing any time soon. Predictions like this were made during the Renaissance and we're still waiting for this Brave New World.
