Hi all, My aunt has had epidurals, knee replacements, spinal surgery (fusion of some vertibrae) and numerous other surgeries. She is in constant pain and is often bedridden. She gets very depressed about the state of her health and I would like to help her. She currently spends a lot of time watching TV and I am thinking of getting her a computer so that she can interact with others. I am interested in any testimonials or comments about how the internet has helped persons cope with their situation - did it help?. For anyone willing to take the time, I would also be interested if you could list any other newsgroups or web sites that you have found to be useful. Best regards to all of you - I sincerely hope that you all get well, William Peterson

Just my opinion, but if she is confined to the house a lot of the time, then the internet is a way to have interaction with live people. That and I find it very useful for educating myself on all kinds of things! Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Best regards to all of you - I sincerely hope that you all get well, William Peterson I've found the internet very useful, to get more informed about my back condition, get moral support from people in forums such as this, plus keep in contact with friends and family during bad periods where I'm not getting out as much. This last point is very important to me - I don't always feel like using the phone, whereas I can run off emails to people whenever I want. You'd be amazed at how many people now have email accounts - if not at home, then at work. I can't sit for long, so my current setup for the internet is a laptop on one of those hospital type tables which goes over the side of the bed, so I can slide under it and use the computer easily while lying down without having to rest it on my tummy (believe it or not, that makes my back hurt after a while). There's room for my modem, and I prop up my head with pillows (not good for my neck I know, but it's the lesser of two evils...) Recommended for anyone who can't sit for long, or has long periods of having to lie down. It's great to be able to connect with the world, do some work and not be in more and more pain which I would be if I sat down like most people do at a computer. Katharine.

Hi all, I am interested in any testimonials or comments about how the internet has helped persons cope with their situation - did it help William Peterson What a kind and caring person you are to want to help your Aunt..I hope it comes back to you one day. I am 54 and have RA...and have much difficulty getting around now. For many years prior to getting sick I traveled the world and was VERY active. Until I got this computer I was at a loss as to what to do with my life. Then my daughter and son-in-law gave me my first one and all of a sudden I had a way to join in life again. Yes, it was a different way...but a way none the less. I had been a homemaker and had never worked outside the home but now I was making new friends, learning HTML and web design and more importantly using the Internet as a tool to not only learn about my disease...but to meet others who also shared this nasty demon. For me..it has made the difference in watching my life go by, and jumping back in. When you have trouble walking...you can no longer go to the world..it has to come to you. And it did. I hope your Aunt is able to get a computer and it gives her as much pleasure as this one has given me. God bless you and your Aunt, Annette )) Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
