p heart problems Dr P: Heart problems and mpb

I have read that there may be some _link_ between baldness and heart problems. As I have mentioned before, everything points to my mpb coming from my mothers side of the family. So far (20+ years), my pattern has slowly developed just like her father's and brother's pattern (and nothing like the one on my dad's side). Her father had heart problems and died due to them at like 67. Her brother has always been in great shape and runs a few miles everyday. Over the weekend he told us that his doctors think he has blockage. He said one day he was fine and then the next he had shortness of breath. He asked why as he had always taken care of himself and the docs said that it was not his fault but just his inhereitance. Well I can accept that I am prone to severe baldness . Treatment is helping avoid that. But what about the heart problems? Is there any kind of treatment that can be done to avoid them? Is DHT the culprit here as well? Thanks!, Guy

My favorite is that damage to the lining of the blood vessels, etc. decreases the amount of nitric oxide ( NO, as in miNOxidil ) the lining produces. NO has multiple messenger functions. Is DHT the culprit here as well? This is probably related to a global deficit in nitric oxide (NO), which is produced by the vascular endothelium (i.e., blood vessel walls). NO is involved in hair growth, hypertension, and many other things in the body. People with severe balding are more likely to suffer heart attacks. NO appears to be the most likely _link_. It may be that a small amount of supplemental L-arginine will help elevate NO levels. Of course, where heart disease is concerned, things such as vitamins C and E are probably helpful, as well as homocysteine lowering nutrients such as folic acid, B-12, B-6, choline, trimethylglycine and others.
