The older planes were second or third tier duties.  Front line planes tended be later, post 1939 designs.  I gather the Wellington was a second line plane then. You can count the RAF designs that originated (not first flight, not date in service but design date) after September 1939 on the finger of one hand. The Mosquito was designed by De Haviland in 1938 though they did not manage to get an order until December 1939. That makes it a pre-war design.  You seem determined to assert a conclusion even if it means ignoring the actual facts.    Ken Young

To be fair to L2008, on occasion he did just that. It was possible for some of us to locate the extract that he was referring to. Of course, it was then found that the extract didn't say what L2008 claimed it did. They did.  I did not quote word for word but gave the gist of it.

Yes, and if you did read all the above it should be no trouble at all for you to give the page references for where Tooze says all these things so clearly ? Waiting.... Waiting.... Nevermind, time to talk to the cat; he's much more erudite than you and I probably have a better chance of getting those pages out of him than I do getting them out of you.

The Me 262 was more operationally useful than the Meteor. The latter was more reliable but held no significant performance advantage over the latest piston-engined fighters, plus it had problems of its own. The Meteor's real problem was that by the end of 1944 the Allies were on the offensive and out-reaching the jet's limited range. The 262 suffered from the same limitation, of course, but the more the German LOC shrank, the more consequential the 262 was. Even more, this was true of the Me-163. Consider how utterly  useless a rocket plane would have been to the Americans or British. Then too, I suspect the British were a bit afraid of losing Meteors in combat. They did _base_ a few as I recall in France, but really the only combat they were involved in was Doodlebug-chasing over the home island. That remained true until the Korean War. Blue skies!
