As the SailCast on http://www.intellicast.com/Sail/World/UnitedStates/Southeast/SouthCar... is pure blue for Saturday, having gotten better since yesterday....Partly Cloudy and only 80F....I'm going to cruise a new river section of the 3200 miles of SC waterways within 50 miles of home Saturday. I was south of Charleston about 45 miles fixing a church and got away about 1430, completing the repair to an electronic piano.  They stomped it to death.  Coming back through Jacksonboro on the Charleston County line in Colleton County where the Edisto River crosses US 17, I was drawn to a sign promising Edisto River Access off on a sideroad.  Being done early, and needing a little break on a beautiful SC day, I took the road.  What I found was a nice boat landing without a soul around.... It has 2 new ramps into the tidal Edisto about 5 miles E of Jacksonboro set in deep woods.  There's a picnic shelter with fish cleaning sink, even a nice hose to flush out the boat, running water, a portalet that looked like the contractor had just changed the whole unit, AC power with lights over the Portalet and parking lot and lots of outside plugs to plug campers/boats/whathaveyou in. There was a small, enclosed building with screened-in windows for parties by the river.  Inside was a sink and counterspace for your campstove, running water again, 8 picnic tables and a buffet bar along a wall.  The ramp was next to a nice wooden dock with a ramp down to a long floating dock with cleats to tie the boat up.  There were 2 trucks/trailers in the parking lot, the fishermen long gone downstream.  No sound, outside of a couple of Mockingbirds dogfighting over territory and the nice breeze in the trees, spoiled the pristine river scenery.  Not another building is in sight of the whole landing, only the river sitting there waiting the next boater to enjoy it. Well, I always carry a topographical map book of SC in my work car. You never know when a church organ is gonna need one.  I took it down to the dock, which has a long bench for sitting built into it, with a cold Coke from my cooler and sat down.  Looking through this must-have piece of organ service equipment, I found my location and determined it to be about 13 miles upriver from the junction of the Edisto and ICW and about 20 miles from Edisto Beach.  In between is a huge wildlife sanctuary preserving nature for those of us lucky enough to have a boat.... Well, this is this weekend's exploration trip.  Going to put in at this landing and head for the sea.  If the weather's windy, I'll stay in the Edisto's narrower channel to the backwater side of the beach. I know a great seafood restaurant for lunch that's run by the shrimpers on Edisto Island.  If it's not windy, I'll take the cut over to the N Edisto River and head down towards the sea.  When we sailed in the Bohicket race we passed an island just outside the opening to the sea that just begs to be explored on a calmer day.  I can recharge and refuel at Bohicket Marina Village where the luxury resorts of Kiawah and Seabrook Islands meet Bohicket Creek.... God I feel sorry for those folks in Annapolis I saw in Yachting magazine all scrunched up, gunwale to gunwale in traffic that looks like I-95 in DC on Monday morning.  I'll probably have 30 miles of pristine SC Low Country all to ourselves Saturday morning.  I'll wave at the dolphins for ya! Larry...loading the boat and cooler?  Hmmmm....Hiney or Coors....Decisions, decision....(c;

you have a new fake EMAIL address... After reading both the above posts 2 thoughts come to mind..... 1.  Larry: thanks a bunch for the de_script_ions. I'm at work.  Not gonna make it out this weekend. For just a few moments I was THERE through your words. I could see the place in my minds eye and I thank you. I wish you happy, safe and quiet boating this weekend. 2. Harry:  sheesh man GET A LIFE!! You have a lot to offer and I have enjoyed some of your posts. I have followed threads and taken _link_s you posted and used them but you are so full of BS that it's hard to get close to you for the smell. You remind me of the kind of guy who walks by the marina where someone is waxing their car.  You comment on how good it looks. You make a helpful suggestion as to where to get some really good wax. Then you come back later and egg it..... we now take you back to the quiet peace of your favorite vacation/time off get wet and enjoy the water fantasy. Peace!!! God I feel sorry for those folks in Annapolis I saw in Yachting magazine all scrunched up, gunwale to gunwale in traffic that looks like I-95 in DC on Monday morning. I saw those pics just last night.  I was hoping that it was a special event like July 4th, free beer or a Hooters grand opening.  If not, I will NEVER complain about the Long Island Sound traffic again. Annapolis Harbor itself is fairly small and can be crowded, especially on weekends. There's limited public docking space, so some boaters line up for hours for a chance to tie up. Others tie to a limited number of moorings in the Harbor. And then there are all the marinas and clubs with their own slips for renters/members. Annapolis is like a little jewel in the midst of the beltway.  It's about 45 minutes to DC, and a little over 30 to Baltimore.  I ALWAYS loved travelling to Annapolis.  When I started with them, I commuted almost every week from Raleigh.  There are great little shops, bars, taverns, and crab houses.  I kinda miss going up there.  I was last there in December for a wedding.  The reception was held in the Marriott waterfront, and we had our own private rooftop party that overlooked the Parade of Lights (I think that's what they call it). They decorate boats for the holidays, and at night, they parade through the harbor.  It was truly beautiful, if not just a little tacky in it's own right. Jeff Sorry, but email address disguised due to unscrupulous spammers.  Please respond in Usenet.
