The Terrible Dilemma of John Logie Baird John Logie Baird, gifted Scottish electrical engineer,  is working on his most famous invention - television - possibly as early as 1912. But it is not until 1923 that he takes out his first provisional patent. Anxious to see how his new gadget will fare in the future, he borrows a time machine from his good friend H.G. Wells, and zaps into the future sometime near the new millennium. John Logie finds his brain-child is now enshrined in people?s lives, a revered lounge-room God dispensing soap and  electronic valium as well as current affairs and news programs running beat-up stories on shock, horror, rampant crime, disaster, death and cats stuck up trees. Appalled, John  Logie returns with haste to his own time, knowing if he is going to save humankind from a fate worse than itself he will have to destroy his brilliant invention. Unfortunately, thieves have forced their way into his house and stolen his television. Citing the unusual circumstances, his insurance company refuses to pay.
