More to the point, why are the shower and the cooker on the RCD side in the first place? It's a new supply, so presumably PME. Assuming the protection is a Type B MCB and the cable is 10mm^2 Got a quick look at the installation today. Yes it is a PME supply (sticker beside the company fuse says this) & the MCBs are type B, the shower that is installed has 10mm cable, the cooker has 6mm. The CU is laid out as follows, From left to right: 100amp main switch (takes up 2 ways) Ground floor lights 1st floor lights Smoke alarms Boiler RCD (takes up 3 ways) Shower Cooker Ground floor ring main 1st floor ring main 2 spare ways. I have never had any dealing with split load board so am wondering if the RCD position can be moved along a space to make room for the new shower in the main switch part of the board? The board is a Crabtree (starbreaker I think) What would be the ideal way to lay out this board given the circuit list above, not forgetting the extra shower we would like to add? Thanks for all the help. Regards, Tel. The company fuse MUST not be used to provide overload protection for the consumer unit. The fuse may be changed at any time. I would strongly suggest the folowing. Move the cooker to the non RCB side of the consumer unit. They can cause a small leakage current and cause trips. If it is a gas cooker then you could just run it from a fused spur on the lower ring but will be a pain if you want to go electric. But this will still leave 64A on a 63 rcb so best getting a new consumer unit. You may still have a problem with melting the service fuse. The line up in the new board would be 100A isolator, Cooker 32A, 6A lights, 6A lights, smoke alarm 6A, 16A emergency socket, 100A RCD Shower Shower Ring Ring

What would be the ideal way to lay out this board given the circuit list above, not forgetting the extra shower we would like to add? The two rings and (perhaps) one of the spare ways on the RCD-side, everything else on the non-RCD side.

Ask them, and remember that you're offering to buy more electricity, so why should they turn you down? IME you'd only have to pay if the service cable needed to be uprated (but times have changed, so ICBW). IME, they will check the CU is rated for 100A and they will check your tails, earthing and service bonding is up to spec. They will also check the meter; I don't know how low that has to be before they replace it, but they seem to leave 60A ones on 100A supplies, and I have a 40A one on an 80A supply. I've never been charged for uprating the service cutout, either domestic or commercial premises.

know how low that has to be before they replace it, but they seem to leave 60A ones on 100A supplies, and I have a 40A one on an 80A supply. I've never been charged for uprating the service cutout, either domestic or commercial premises. Well if my brother still wants to go the electric shower route after I show him these posts LOL we will contact the electric supplier & ask if we can have a nice big 100 amp fuse.
